From The Legion
Our next meeting is this Sunday, January 8th at 2:00 PM.
Rebecca Rocha, Mary Hoover, Donna Murphy,
and Sandra Rogers worked very hard making scarves and knitted caps for the Legion, for us to give to the K-2
children at the Legion Christmas program this year and
years to come. This was a huge success this year as the children loved them. The teachers said that they were going
to do a yarn drive to help the ladies for next year.
Thank you for making this a Legion Family affair.
Legion member John Miller and Auxiliary member
Dorothy Miller, with the assistance of the Epsilon
Sigma Alpha (ESA) sorority that Dorothy belongs to
packed 45 packages to send to service members around
the world from the Williams/Grand Canyon area. This has
been a program of the ESA for over 45 years. These
packages contain homemade cookies and candy, books,
decks of cards, a local newspaper and a letter signed
by Williams Mayor, John Moore, and are a big hit
with the service members.

From The Auxiliary
On December 21, 2011, in an effort to give the lower classes,
K-2nd grade, of the Grand Canyon School, a visit from
SANTA, The Canyon Squire Inn arranged to have Santa
helicoptered in. At the Santa party, the Inn also gave each
child a picture to color and an ornament to decorate and
served them cookies and orange juice.
John Ivens Post furnished each child with a “goody” bag
of fruit and a candy cane. Four ladies of the Auxiliary
knitted, crocheted and wove hats and scarves for all the
children in attendance. The ladies who did the hats and
scarves were Auxiliary members Sandra Rogers, Rebecca
Rocha, Mary Hoover, and Donna Murphy. Rebecca and
Mary went up to help distribute the items to the children.
Ed Rocha arranged for the “goody” bags and John Miller
drove the group to the Canyon in the Legion’s van. The
children, the teachers, the Inn’s crew and the Legion and
Auxiliary members enjoyed the party. We will continue
to do this for years to come. SANTA was the star!
The Kaibab Learning Center children were also given
Christmas “goody” bags from the Legion. Unit President,
Rebecca Rocha would like to thank the following members
for all their hard work and dedication for helping her make
this years’ Christmas Program a huge success: Sandra
Rogers, Mary Hoover, and Donna Murphy. This is a
program that I would like to continue doing every year.
The Auxiliary received some very collectible stamps
from Legion members George Costuck and Bill Gunn, and
from some of the Williams Community Methodist
Church ladies. Thank you all.
We are trying to get together a program for
Arizona’s 100th Birthday on February 14, 2012.
